Public Safety

Sports Grounds

Following the introduction of the Safety of Sports Grounds Act, 1975, many football stadia in Scotland were designated as requiring Safety Certificates. In 1987 further legislation was introduced covering stands at sports grounds with accommodation for more than 500 spectators.

Your Council is the responsible authority in respect of the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975 and the Fire Safety and Safety of Places of Sport Act 1987 and Building Standards staff are closely involved in the technical assessment and regular site inspection of Sports Grounds and stands.
