Public Safety
General Licensing
Your local Council is the licensing authority for general licensing
covering venues where public entertainment takes place and also
where raised structures like temporary spectator stands are used.
The issue of liquor licences and licensing of premises for betting
and gaming is the responsibility of the Licensing Board.
In both cases, as part of the licensing procedures, Building
Standards provides technical expertise to assess the suitability
of premises or temporary events.
A large variety of venues are assessed and inspected ranging
from routine inspections of public houses, hotels and bingo halls
to considerable involvement in the licensing of open air events
like fairgrounds, the National Outdoor Bowling Championships,
Air Displays and the Open Golf Championships.
